About me
I was born in Washington, DC, USA and spent my childhood in Korea, the Philippines, and Taiwan. When my father retired from the U.S. Foreign Service, we returned to his home state of Hawaii, where I completed high school. Since then, I’ve lived in Massachusetts, Washington and Wisconsin. I currrently live in Chicago with my spouse. We have two cats.
I play drums and sing in bands, and I'm somewhat of a fitness fanatic. I have a non-exciting "straight job" that allows me to keep a roof over my head and put food in my mouth. And I write stories.
When I was about 10, my parents gave me Isaac Asimov’s The Caves of Steel and The Gods Themselves. Science fiction isn't the only genre I'm interested in, but it's the one that has influenced me most strongly. Other influences: formative years spent "overseas" as a guest in someone else's country. Later, growing up in the isolated yet culturally and ethnically diverse environment of Hawaii. Last but not least, my longtime participation in punk and underground music and culture.
Back in 2008, my first published story appeared in an online magazine, which almost immediately folded. But later it was resurrected and you can read that story here.
In 2010, I had a story accepted to an anthology. After much runaround and aggravation, the anthology was cancelled due to "lack of funds".
In 2014 I finally had a story published in a tree book that isn't going to disappear in a puff of electrons. You can read an excerpt here.
I'm working on some other projects. Expect another story from me around 2018. Maybe we'll all have hovercars by then!
